Creationism/ID vs. Evolution
I know this doesn't get to the heart of the debate (Addition: I don't personally endorse the views expressed on either side of this comic), but I thought it was funny (Addition: so please read it in that spirit):

Not only does it not get at the heart of the debate, it shows a profound misunderstanding of what creationists (let alone IDists) believe. It doesn't even touch on the debate.
Macht,
No offense intended. I just thought it was funny.
I know. It's not that I don't think it is funny. But I'm sure that you would agree that the cartoonist is trying to make some larger cultural point (besides being funny) and on that point I think he is just showing his ignorance.
Macht,
Readily granted.
My impression when I saw the cartoon the first time, was that it misrepresents the other side in the debate. Only a few extremists argue that there is no such thing as evolution, including in bacteria and fruit flies. Their argument is that evolution does not explain how man came to be.
Actually I think the IDers accept all of the historical events of evolution. They just dispute whether a key subset of such changes can be explained by chance.
Part of the problem is that all the Young Earth Creationists, seeing that ID gets good press, have latched onto it. So this muddled things further.
I think ID is bunk. But it's unfortunate how some react to it. I'd think it would be in the best interests of biologists and scientists to relish a way to get people who reject so much science to buy into a lot more of it. Unfortunately that's not how they've taken it. Rather than finding ways of persuading the public they've adopted a very confrontational approach which is completely counterproductive for the aims of public understanding of science. (IMO)
Oh, nuts--the image is gone, and the link is dead. I would have liked to see it.
